Description
A watching brief was maintained during redevelopment on the site of Last's garage, Middleborough. This followed an earlier evaluation of the site (see ECC973). The deeper trenches on the site were recorded and revealed a series of gravel street surfaces. Dark earth ran beneath the lowest recorded surface. To the east of the road surface was a post-medieval frontage wall foundation. A possible second property was noted further to the south. Behind the frontage was a daub floor. At the south end of the new building frontage the trenches were 1 m deep and cut through a series (perhaps three) of mortar floors of the Roman period.<1>
