Description

Foundations, floor, painted plaster, recorded at a depth of 3 to 4ft found in the garden of St Peter's Vicarage.<1> In 1843, Wire visited the field behind St Peter's Vicarage, the Reverend Carr mentioned that a beautiful mosaic pavement was discovered and covered up again some years before. <2> In 1845 the Reverend Carr sent Wire some fragments of 'Roman house wall painted' found in the garden to the rear of the Vicarage 'No part of it can be dug to the depth of three or four feet but some Roman remains are found principally foundations and concrete floors. Some fragments of embossed or plain Samian ware have been found there'. <3>
