Description

Rex Hull notes that the area of St Mary's Hospital (previously the Union) has been a highly productive area for small finds, recording that the depth of made soil is great, is reported as sometimes 12ft deep. He says 'the general impression is that much of the area was used as the general rubbish tip for the town since it contains a jumble of coins and brooches from the earliest times to the latest'. Finds from this area include a bronze age sherd. <1>
