Workmen discovered a large number of pottery vessels whilst levelling for the Abbey Field football pitch in 1922.<1> According the Laver 'They were arranged on the outside a large pot every few yards and between and inside many smaller. Many were Samian and many figures on them and names on the platters. The area covered at least 30ft. There were many hundreds'.<2>
