Description

In the spring of 1966 the basement south of Williams and Griffin was extended to the front of the building. Archaeologists were excluded because of the dangers involved in the work. It was possible to see through the hoarding put up between the High Street and the site, burnt daub levels about 10ft north of the High Street. Their date uncertain, but they were at a low level and appeared to rest on or near the natural subsoil. <1>
