Description

A watching brief was held during the erection of three flats by Colchester Borough Council. "A Roman mortar floor was uncovered near the western boundary of the site at a depth of five feet. To the east lay a cellar, probably of 19th century date. The workmen reported a north-south wall or foundation of flint in the south-west corner of the plot belonging to No 5. A pit apparently 'filled' with oysters lay at its north end."<1>
