Description

In 1966 extensive alterations were made to the cellar of 17 Queen Street on the south west corner of Culver Street and Queen Street. The floor of the cellar was lowered by 18 inches and this revealed a massive east west wall made of pale mortar and septaria. About halfway across the cellar from the east wall a rather slighter north-south wall joined it from the north. Surrounding the north face of the east-west wall on both sides of the north-south one was a deposit of made earth, clay and sand with flack of charcoal and many small stones, which was probably made-up for the floor. It produced early second century coarse pottery.<1>See map <2>
