A watching brief was held during the excavation of a small trench in the back garden of No 5 Alexandra Road. The hole was dug in search of a water pipe and measured 1.4m x 1.3m and was 1.55m deep. Natural subsoil appeared at a depth of 0.85 m below ground level. A variety of finds were recovered from the soil between the garden topsoil and the natural which was thought to be backfill from one or more pits, probably resulting from sand extraction in the area.<1>
