Description
A watching brief was held during rebuilding of the rear part of the Red Lion Hotel. It was not possible to carryout a proper watching brief on the site. The site manager maintained that all the soil dug through (to a depth of 10 metres) was dark topsoil. This is possible as other sites at the rear of High Street properties (where these have been seen or dug) tend to have been badly damaged as a result of the digging of pits.<1>
