Description

In 1893 Mr George Joslin deposited a collection of 108 grave groups with the Museum. These groups were almost entirely found in his garden or within a quarter mile radius of his house. The finds come from contemporary housing developments off of Lexden Road, including Alexandra Road and Wellesley Road, also excavations in Joslins on garden. His house lay on Beverley Road, and is thought to be No 10. The collection contained about 800 pottery and glass vessels and over 1,000 other objects, mainly coins. One exceptional grave group was the so called 'Childs Grave', a collection of pipeclay comic figures found at the rear of Joslin's House in 1866.<1><2><3>
