Description

Observation of a two meter deep stanchion hole dug by contractors during rebuilding on eastern side of Red Lion, revealed a post-medieval well and a series of Roman and later deposits. Near the bottom was located a layer of charcoal probably dated to the Boudican revolt. This sealed a make-up layer of daub which overlay the natural. <1>
