LAYER DE LA HAYE InELD FARM LANE 1. 5214 TL 91 NE 17/7 Hill Farmhouse 30.3.79 II 2. Late C14 hall house with gabled cross wing. Timber-framed and plastered. Red plain tile roof. Two storeys. Three window range C18 vertical sliding double hung sashes with glazing bars. Cross wing originally jettied now underbuilt and extended to south in mid C16. Timber-framed and plastered red plain tile roof. Part black weatherboarded with C19 casements, horizontal and vertical sliding sashes. C18 and C19 extension at rear in red brick with red plain tile roof. C20 projecting oriel window to the south-east. C18 red brick bakehouse now incorporated on south-west side with early C19 pump to rear. Some C19 semi-circular windows at rear. Internally, most of the C14 timber frame remains with cambered tie beams and jowled storey posts. The main chimney stack is mid C16 rebuilt at top in C19. Mid C16 extension has cambered tie beams, jowled storey posts and stop chamfered beams. Top plate scarfs are halved and bridled throughout. The mid C16 build re-uses a considerable quantity of timber from an early C13 building, including a splayed scarf with under squinted abuttments and 4 face pegs in the collar purlin. Numerous C17 and C18 doors remain, and one early C18 cupboard. Listing NGR: TL9795419632
