GREAT HORKESLEY NAYLAND ROAD 1. 5214 (Corner with Church Street) Cockerills (formerly listed as Cockerells) TL 93 SE 3/36 7.4.65 II* 2. C14 house, now comprising an H-plan with 2 jettied crosswings which are gabled, the exterior is plastered, the roofs are pegtiled. Windows are leaded timber casement. The south crosswing has a doorway with side lights (diamond mullioned) and shutters facing the present hall. This wing of 2 bays, north cross-wing with central partition, and also of 2 bays with 4 centred door head at south-west angle related to former stairs of which the trimmer survives. This was a service-wing. Hall divided by first-floor with cyma and hollow moulded joists soffit-tenoned of C15. Centre frame of hall with arch braces and crown-post survive. South wing also with crown-post. Evidence for a smoke bay exists between south end of hall and south crosswing. Scarfing edge halved and bridle butted.
