Description

EAST MERSEA CHURCH LANE 1. 5214 The Hall TM 01 SE 24/2 7.4.65 II GV 2. C16 and earlier house on moated site. Two storey timber framed and plastered. Complex, but essentially of H-plan, north wing hipped and gabletted as in hall-range at west and all south wing circa 1500, with side-purlin roof. A wing extends west of hall and range north of south, crosswing with central door in wide (restored) case under a hood on brackets. Fenestration mixed types, irregularly placed. One pair sliding sashes on west wall of hall first storey. All roofs pegtiled. Tall red brick chimney to hall close to return of south wing. North wing has sliding sashes on south wall of first storey; over a painted brick ground storey. Traces of guilloche plaster under eaves on north of north wing. The rame projects on east wall at north end of hall, possibly indicating the removal of further bays of north wing. Kitchen range of one storey, with hipped pegtiled roof and tall red brick circa 1900 chimney, Possible remains of stair-tower in return south-east of hall. Listing NGR: TM0514914201
