Description

DEDHAM HIGH STREET 1. 5214 (south side) Old Grammar School and Well House TM 0533 26/40 23.6.52 I GV 2. Rebuilt 1732. Two storey attics and cellars, mansard slate and tile roof (double span) to west wing, tile roof to east wing. Built in gault brick walling with elaborate red brick dressings - pilasters, dentil cornice and niche over central doorway of north side. East wing with curved pediment and fluted Doric pilasters. West wing has 5 window range, small-paned sashes segmental rubbed brick arches and rubbed brick aprons. There are now external shutters to all the windows. Central wood doorcase with segmental pediment. North front has 9 window range small-paned sashes (some original) and ground floor windows are arched. Parapet ramped up over niche. Central wood doorcase with segmental pediment and inscription above - 'Thomas Grimwood Hujus Scholae Magister 1732'. Listing NGR: TM0581233140
