Description

The mill was constructed on the west side of Mill Street (later Butt Road) in c.1660 and it is depicted on Deane’s map of 1748. It was demolished in 1890. However, at least part of the curving brick base is preserved in the basement of 69 Butt Road. The archaeological remains were adopted onto the Local List by the Local Plan Committee on 24/08/20. The windmill is documented from the mid 17th century, and was one ofa number to the south of the town (all of which have long since been demolished). The surviving remains are easily identifiable.
