Description

(Jaggers' 2007 list, Study Area 5, pp.14 & 27) Formerly Jack's. Two timber-framed two storey blocks with attics end on to St Nicholas Street and linked at roof level under a single peg-tile roof. Jettied on the first and second floors on St Nicholas Street and jettied and underbuilt later in brick on Culver Street. Plastered. C17 or earlier. An important building which appears on the outside (at least) as as a rare survival of a relatively well-preserved jettied building in Colchester town centre. Needs investigation. Forms a group with 60 Culver Street East. *** in Charles Debenham painting 'Jack's, Colchester' (date??)
