Description

[JB] Crenellated concrete wall, overlooking (the south side of) East Bridge, built in October 1941 as a firing post to defend Colchester in the event of enemy invasion.  'Wooden pailings were nailed onto the horizontal battens to match the existing fencing' (Essex Archaeology and History vol. 29 (1998), p 192).  An interesting and rare survival of camouflaged World War II defences. [JB] Unique to Essex.
