House, C17 and later. Timber-framed and rendered with pitched tile roof and brick stacks.
PLAN: One-room-deep, 2-unit house with end stacks and later service wing attached to rear (q.v.)
EXTERIOR: Heavy wood door with long iron hinges to right of centre. C20 porch and windows. C20 extension to left rear not of interest.
INTERIOR: Chamfered spine beam to ground floor with lamb-tongue stops at both sides of central timber-framed partition, and at both ends. Wall framing exposed. Wood stair to right of centre encased in timber-frame and with 2-panel door. Roof of 3 tie-beams with reinforcing collars. Slender rafters and no ridge board. Staggered tenoned purlins, that to right at rear with carved initials "J W C ook A K H". 2-panel door subdivides attic.
A large C17 house with C18 service addition that survives as a separate house to the rear (q.v.), and that retains much of its timber-framing and plan form in the historic fishing community of West Mersea.
