Description
DEDHAM CROWN STREET 1. 5214 Dunton's Almshouses (Nos 1 to 9) TM 0531 27/18 II GV 2. A long range in red brick Flemish-bonded, Nos 3-7 tall and gambrel roofed - pegtiled. Three red brick chimneys along their ridge, 5 doors (modern) and 7 pairs of modern casements. Both end ranges lower with ridge and gable roofs having one red brick chimney each; 2 plain doors and 4 casements. A tablet inscribed: "these almshouses left by will of Mr Stephen Dunton in 1517, endowed by Mr William Littlebury in 1571, were rebuilt by order of the Governors in the year of our Lord 1806" They were modernised in 1966.
