Description
STANWAY LONDON ROAD 1. 5214 (south side) TL 92 SE 12/7 St Albright's Hospital II 2. 1837, formerly Colchester workhouse, by Scott and Moffatt. Cruciform plan with octagonal centre block. Two storeys. Red brick and grey slate roofs. Double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars and some modern casements, in segmental brick arches. Masters House is of 2 storeys in red brick with grey slate hipped roof. Four window range double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. Modillioned eaves course. Large flat roofed central porch. Central octagon, cruciform wings, perimeter range and Masters house, but laundry and C20 outbuildings not of special interest.
