Description
WIVENHOE EAST STREET 1. 5214 (south side) Old Garrison House TM 0321 30/36 5.5.49 GV 2. Circa 1600 house. Timber framed and pargetted. Two storeys with ridge, gable, and pegtile roof, 2 red brick square--plan chimney-stacks, one on east end other near west end. Gabled dormers in front pitch, eaves. The pargetting confined to the first floor of street frontage, squared strap-work grid with voluted floral pattens in relief. Ground-storey black weatherboarded with one modern door and 4 pairs of modern casement. Rear elevation jettied with exposed storey posts having elaborately jowled and pendanted tops, also jettied at the eaves. (RCHM 6).
