Description
The following building shall be added:
DEDHAM GULLS LANE (off Long TM 13 SE Road East)
5/100 Meadows Cottage II
Cottage early 17th C. Timber framed and rendered with some weatherboarding and gabled with plain tile roof. Of one storey with attics and continuous catslide lean-to on rear. Front has 20th C casement windows and painted door and 2 lean- to dormers. Stack on NE flank and rear roof rises against its SE side. Two bays of Elm framing with jowled posts heavy tie beams and some straight wall-bracing exposed inside. Side purlin roof with wind braces at W end. Appears to be extremely late example of an open-hall house with one floored bay, possible having lost a further bay from SW end. The 'hall' bay now has inserted floor, but has some soot blackening and possible outline of hall window. Inglenook stack of early 17th C brickwork (lower part) with moulded brick at base of flanks (possible former timber hood). Small area of painted 17th C panelling and 2 recessed doorheads as flat triangles. Lean-to is addition and of at least 3 phases.
