Description
WALES COLNE COLCHESTER ROAD 1. 5214 Watch House TL 8928 28/4 II* 2. C16 house, timber framed and pebble-dashed, of 2 storeys and H-plan. West crosswing higher than facade gable of hall. East crosswing with ridge lower than that of hall. Original cross entry doorhead survives as a window against west wing, red brick chimney stack at west end of hall. Windows casements in sets of 3. Roofs gabled and pegtiled. Inside, the hall has been laterally divided by a first floor on clamps, with deep joists circa 1520. The hall roof was rebuilt at about the same date, soot from the open hearth survives on many rafters. (RCHM 7).
