Full Description

The burial ground for the 'Round Meeting House' Congregational Chapel, Lion Walk. Presumably, the burial ground was opened in the same year as the chapel, 1766. The burial ground and the vaults were officially closed on 1st May 1855, a year after the municipal cemetery was opened. Three isolated burial were specially sanctioned in 1863, 1864 and 1876. Nearly all the burial were in family vaults made of brick. Eighteen of the coffins were lead, including all those of the waelthy Tabor family. All burials removed in 1984 were taken to Colchester Cemetery for reinterment; a sketch plan was made o fthe approximate positions of the vaults and other graves. The gravestones were resited many years ago around the southern boundary of the graveyard. <1>

The exact boundaries of the cemetery are not clearly known (or plotted).
