Full Description

During excavations at Culver Street in 1981-2 & 1984-5 (ECC337), an east-west military street was excavated which lay to the east of the via principalis (MCC760), west of a north-south military street (MCC781) and between two military buildings (MCC775 and MCC776). A ditch ran along the streets northern edge.
The street was well metalled with layers of packed gravel and sand. It was replaced by a new street (MCC733) on a different alignment, following the foundation of the colonia in AD 49.<1>
