Full Description

Listing records '18th century, greatly altered. Brick fronted in 19th century. Sash windows with architrave surrounds. Modern Shop below. Plaque with inscription: Formerly occupied by 2 Colchester Clockmakers Jeremy Spurgin born 1666 died 1699 and John Smortwaite born 1675 died 1739.'<1>

A series of photographs was taken during the restoration and alteration of a timber framed building at 93 High St. Mr. N. Smith also made some measured sketches of the main structural features. The house had a shallow cellar at the frontage.<2> English bond and a chamfered stop carving were recorded suggest that house is 17th century in origin.
