Full Description
St Martin's Court 17th century house.
RCHME survey of 34 Northgate Street. 'House, now tenements. The walls are of red brick. It was built c.1620 on an L-shaped plan with the wings extending towards the W. and N. The storeys are divided by a moulded brick string and the eaves-cornice has shaped modillions also of brick. There are many original windows which formerly had moulded mullions and square moulded labels; some are now blocked but one, on the E side, is of four lights/ Condition-bad'.<1>
The house was demolished by the corporation in 1933 or 1935. Three photographs taken by Mr P.G. Laver are held in the Social History photo files (Museum Resource Centre) under Northgate Street. One view from the south taken in St Peter's Street clearly shows the north window(?) and its brick mouldings.<2>
