Full Description

DOE survey of No's 45 & 46 North Hill. Grade II. C16 building with front block remodelled in early C18. Timber-framed and plastered. Two and Three storeys, cellars, the roofs tiled. No 46 has an attic dormer. The upper storey projects on the north side of the rear wing. The front has a coved plaster eaves cornice to No 46, moulded wood cornice to No 45, central passageway to rear court and above the passageway a large C18 oriel window. No 45 has a flight of steps and one handrail to the front door. <1>

RCHME survey of 45 & 46 North Hill. House 'partly of three storeys; it was built in the second half of the 16th century. The front block was remodelled early in the 18th century and has a coved eaves-cornice of plaster. The upper storeys project on the N side of the back wing and have original shaped brackets.' <2>

Drawing of Lay's yard by Major Bale dated 1890. The yard has been identified as Spinks or Scott's yard and located to 45-46 North Hill, The drawing shows the side of a jettied building with carved brackets. <3>
