Full Description

A robbed out Roman wall foundation was observed during the excavation of a pipe trench in Castle Park, 1983 (ECC375). The robber trench was cut into a sandy-clay loam make-up between 0.3 and 0.5m deep. Some of the septaria and mortar foundation survived in situ. Other foundations were found further to the north (see MCC1286, MCC1288). Traces of a disturbed mortar floor were also noted to the north of this foundation and the remains of a tessellated pavement were recorded immediately to the south (see MCC1289).<1>
