Full Description

During the laying of a sewer pipe in Castle Park (ECC375), observations were made of an east -west Roman street with adjacent drainage gullies to north and south. The street was situated immediately south of the town wall rampart (MCC1170) along the northern edge of Insula 7. The remains consisted of a thin layer of street metalling , 0.1m thick, flanked to the north and south by shallow gullies 0.75m wide and 0.25 -0.3m deep. This was presumed to be the remains of the Intervallum road.<1>
