Description

Two trenches were excavated to locate the edge of a large, backfilled quarry pit belonging to Everitt's Brickyard, prior to the construction of a housing estate in 1978. The first was initially a long north-south trench which, upon discovery of the pit, was extended eastward to examine undisturbed ground. A second trench further east proved barren. Roman features in the first trench included a ditch, pits and disturbed graves. (The trenches are to the south/south-west of 17 Wakefield Close).<1>
