Description

In 1971 the contractor reduced the ground surface by machine between Wellesley Road and Maldon Road along the course of the new inner relief road. Following the observation of distinct features a small area measuring 5 metres x ? was partly excavated over the following weekend. This was achieved with the help of members of the Colchester Archaeological Group. Parts of five pits were found dated to the Roman period.<1>
