Description

DOE survey note of No's 47 & 49 Culver Street. Grade III. (Demolished) Form of the old Colchester Grammar School 1583-1852. A Colchester Corporation plaque on the front records that St George Biddell -Arz?, the Astronomer Royal, was educated here (early C19). Most of the building is now gutted & used as a garage premises, but the upper storey front remains & the small east cross wing. Roughcast plaster on the front. 15 window range of double hung sashes with playing bars; some timber-framing exposed in the interior.<1>
