Description

A watching brief was held on the western section of the inner relief road. The CAT "X series" miscellaneous finds record contains an entry X139, which states "Iron object with possible gold plating. One sherd". The find spot is described as "From contractors excavation for Western Relief Road, 23/11/75. Possibly from Roman town ditch C3rd/4th" No further details are available. The Western Relief Road refers to the dual carriageway works on Balkerne Hill <1>
