Description

A watching brief was undertaken at the Essex County Hospital, Lexden Road, during the construction of an extension on the north side of the existing medical centre. Seven column pockets were dug. These contained no significant features apart from a Roman pit. The pit seems to have been over 4m wide and at least 1m deep. A Roman deposit approx. 80mm thick overlay the pit.<1>
