Description

A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of a pipe trench along Maldon Road. "Various Roman finds were recovered from the trench. Nothing was of significance apart from a human tibia found near the junction of Maldon Road with Beaconsfield Avenue. It was found within a few metres of a small pit or ditch, apparently of Roman date. The other feature of possible archaeological value was a layer of gravel opposite Salisbury Avenue. It was about 0.3m thick and its surface lay 1.3m below the modern ground level."<1>
