Description
A watching brief was held during the construction of the caretaker’s house in a garden by the east gate of St Helena School. The site is within the Sheepen scheduled area. The site was formerly a sunken garden and no significant features were noted during the watching brief. "Machine clearance of loose topsoil further reduced the overall level to between 0.3 meters (northern side) and 0.6 meters (southern side) below the surface of the school yard. Foundation trenches revealed a uniform accumulation of very dark greyish brown sandy loam." <1>
