Prior to the demolition of two houses and the redevelopment of the site for a two storey office block, No's 70-74 Northgate Street were surveyed. The houses contained cellars which extended to the frontage of Northgate Street. Projecting through both of the cellar walls adjacent to the street is a length of Roman town wall which was also exposed when two trial holes were dug on the site following demolition.<1>
